This prompt brings back so many memories! I got my first laptop (courtesy of my dad) in 2008 – it was a Lenovo G550 and I loved it. It wasn’t the most powerful laptop around, but we weren’t super financially stable at that point to afford something better, and it still got the job done! I was only in primary school at this point, and remember jumping around the whole house when we got it.

This laptop will always hold a special place in my heart, mostly because it’s the device that introduced me to the world of tech in general, as well as coding, WordPress and other things – all of this eventually helped me land my current job and pick up irreplaceable skills along the way that helped me make a career for myself. I also have fond memories of simply playing games like Road Rash, Chess, Cricket & more throughout the day – hours at a time.

I binged so much YouTube content about tech and making websites that I eventually started appreciating the thought and skills that goes into building a digital product. The laptop has went through so many things – from installing MacOS on it and transforming it into a hackintosh system, to installing various Linux distros and messing around. The most astonishing part of this story is the fact that my first laptop still works perfectly (aesthetically speaking it’s a little beaten up) and is still used actively as a tertiary device at my place back home in Kanpur, which I think speaks volumes of it’s build quality. Here’s to hoping it works for 10 more years! 🍻
