If you frequently visit my site, you would’ve noticed it’s got a new look! It’s now running on an entirely custom theme. For the tech-savvy among you, this theme is fully compatible with Full Site Editing, and I built it using the “Create Block Theme” Plugin. This is a pretty cool plugin that lets you design custom layouts for a theme without diving into too much code. While I still have about 160 lines of custom CSS added, the plugin really does make your life easier when you want to spin up something entirely custom.

Why’d I change the design again you ask? Well, don’t get me wrong, I still think Twenty Twenty Four (the previous theme this site used) is an excellent default theme – it’s just that I was really keen on developing a design from scratch, that’s also as unique as a personal site can be. The more time I spend in the Site Editor, the more amazed I am by how easy it has become to customize everything without having to rely on any other plugins at all. This site doesn’t use any customization related plugins, and everything was built exclusively using the Site Editor. It looks great on smaller screens (read: mobiles) as well!

I plan to periodically add more meaningful features to the theme (for example, a dark mode toggle) and if everything goes well, I might end up releasing it for free on WordPress.org’s theme directory. If you find any weird layout issues, or if you have any other feedback about the design, feel free to drop a comment below.

With the redesign complete, it also seemed like the right time to finally switch my personal site’s domain to something that aligned a bit better with what the site is about, so you’ll notice the primary address for my site now is suyogya.link. I still own the domain technobooz.com (originally registered in 2012!) and will continue to keep it alive.

Aside: Happy birthday, Matt!
